Every padel court in Surabaya is under a roof. Playground is the one that is also cooled: two tournament-standard courts on the second floor of Fairway Nine Mall, in genuine air conditioning rather than under fans, which the venue claims is a first in Indonesia and which nobody else in this city offers. One court is blue and the other pink, and between them they are the reason this venue is on a lot of people's list for a two o'clock game.
Being inside a mall is the other half of it. The food and drink is on the same floor, there is a spectator stand, changing rooms with showers, a prayer room and WiFi, and afterwards the group is already somewhere with things to do. Racket rental runs Rp20.000 to Rp50.000 depending on the brand.
Two rules are worth knowing before you book. Prices have included VAT since the first of August, so the number you see is the number you pay. And the venue has an unusually specific refund policy for technical failures — if rain gets into the court, under thirty minutes played is a full refund, thirty to forty-five minutes is half, and beyond forty-five minutes is nothing. In an air-conditioned hall on a mall's second floor that clause is a reminder that the roof is not the whole story.

Second floor of Fairway Nine Mall, formerly Lenmarc, on Jl. Mayjend Jonosewojo in Pradahkalikendal. Mall parking, mall lifts, and the venue is signposted from inside — which makes it the easiest venue in the city to send somebody to who has never been.

- Bring 8 to 10 players. 8 is everyone on court every round; past that you are running a sit-out queue, which is fine but somebody has to track it.
- Expect about 6 rounds once you take out warm-up and changeovers — play each to 21 points so every court finishes together and the scores stay comparable.
- At 10 players, 2 people sit out each round. 2 courts tops out at 10 players before the sit-out queue is longer than the court time.
Formats that fit
- Americano a full rotation at 8 players is 7 rounds and the booking holds 6, so you play a slice of it. Fine for an evening, but the standings are a snapshot rather than a complete table.
- Mexicano re-pairs by the standings each round, so the games stay close. 6 rounds is enough for the table to mean something.
- King of the Court winners move up a court, losers move down. Works from 4 rounds on 2 courts.

Two courts is eight players on court and a ceiling of ten, two resting each round. Eight is the number to bring and this is a venue for one group, not two.
Eight players is the largest group in this city that finishes a full Americano inside one hour: the rotation needs seven rounds and fifty playable minutes gives eight at 16 points. Set the target at 16 rather than 21 and it completes.
King of the Court also fits — four rounds needed on two courts against the six an hour gives at 21 points — so this is a good venue for a group that wants a format with a proper finish rather than a leaderboard.
The air conditioning changes when you can play, which for a working group is the whole point. A midday booking here is comfortable, and a midday booking almost anywhere else in Surabaya is a negotiation.
Two courts means one group at a time, so book earlier than you would at a five-court venue. There is no second court to move to.
