Klipper is a hockey and tennis venue first — two floodlit artificial pitches, a natural grass one, twelve tennis courts of which two go under an air dome for winter, a gym, a hall, and a clubhouse restaurant in the middle of it all. The two padel courts are Galis-built on sand-filled turf with floodlights, and they sit in that park rather than in a shed at the edge of it.

The venue's own quirk is its name: the address is Eckerkamp 38, but everyone has called the grounds Hoheneichen since 1920, after the S-Bahn station next door. Expect the signage, the venue's website and your map app to disagree, and go by Hoheneichen.

Getting there

S-Bahn Hoheneichen is beside the grounds, which for a venue this leafy is unusual — most Hamburg padel in this price bracket involves a drive. There is free parking too, and the Alstertal for a run before or after.

Running a session here

Klipper THC Hamburg has 2 courts, and a 60-minute booking is the slot to plan around. That fixes almost everything else about the evening.

  • Bring 8 to 10 players. 8 is everyone on court every round; past that you are running a sit-out queue, which is fine but somebody has to track it.
  • Expect about 6 rounds once you take out warm-up and changeovers — play each to 21 points so every court finishes together and the scores stay comparable.
  • At 10 players, 2 people sit out each round. 2 courts tops out at 10 players before the sit-out queue is longer than the court time.

Formats that fit

  • Americano a full rotation at 8 players is 7 rounds and the booking holds 6, so you play a slice of it. Fine for an evening, but the standings are a snapshot rather than a complete table.
  • Mexicano re-pairs by the standings each round, so the games stay close. 6 rounds is enough for the table to mean something.
  • King of the Court winners move up a court, losers move down. Works from 4 rounds on 2 courts.

If you book fewer courts

Two courts is eight players, and eight is the size at which a full Americano rotation actually completes: seven rounds, which one hour covers at 16 points a round. Book the hour, agree 16 before the first serve, and everybody leaves with a finished table — which is the one thing a sixteen-court hall cannot give a group of eight.

Rackets are only available if you pre-order them at the venue office, and the office keeps venue hours — closed Thursdays, short Fridays, different in the school holidays. If anyone in your eight is turning up empty-handed, that is a phone call earlier in the week, not a question at the gate.

€24 before 14:00 against €28 after is small on the court and smaller per player. If your group can play a weekday afternoon, take it, but don't reorganise the evening for four euros.
