This is one court, and saying so first is the honest way round: the Cologne Sportspark in Köln-Poll is a multi-sport venue that added padel, not a padel venue. What it added is a good one — an outdoor panorama court with glass on all four sides, which is the build the professional tour uses and which almost no single-court site bothers with.

The rest of the park is the reason to come: two indoor tennis courts on a joint-friendly velour surface, badminton, indoor football, beach volleyball, golf simulators, a restaurant with a large terrace and event space. No membership, free parking on site, and an opening offer of a block card at pay-for-ten-play-eleven. One quirk worth knowing: booking online costs €2 less per hour than booking by phone or at the desk, which is unusual enough to be worth doing deliberately.

Getting there

Poller Weg 1 in Poll, on the right bank in the south-east, with free parking — this is a drive, and the park is built on the assumption that you will.

Running a session here

Cologne Sportspark has one court, and a 60-minute booking is the slot to plan around. That fixes almost everything else about the evening.

  • Bring 4 to 5 players. 4 is everyone on court every round; past that you are running a sit-out queue, which is fine but somebody has to track it.
  • Expect about 6 rounds once you take out warm-up and changeovers — play each to 21 points so every court finishes together and the scores stay comparable.
  • At 5 players, 1 person sits out each round. One court tops out at 5 players before the sit-out queue is longer than the court time.

Formats that fit

  • Americano every pair partners every other pair inside the booking — 3 rounds, and you have 6.
  • Mexicano re-pairs by the standings each round, so the games stay close. 6 rounds is enough for the table to mean something.
  • King of the Court winners move up a court, losers move down. Works from 2 rounds on one court.

One court is four players, and four is a size that finishes properly: a full Americano rotation at four players is three rounds, and an hour gives six at 21 points. You will run the whole rotation twice over and still have time for a decider.

Beyond four people this is not the venue to book for the group — the ladder below has one row, and a fifth person is a spectator. If your regular eight play here, book two consecutive hours and split into two fours, or take the group somewhere with more courts.

Book online rather than by phone. €2 an hour is small, but it is the whole difference between the two ways of doing exactly the same thing.

Common questions

How many padel courts does the Cologne Sportspark have?
One, outdoors, built as a panorama court with 360-degree glass. It opened this season as an addition to the park's existing sports.
What does an hour cost?
€27 online or €29 by phone and on site between 09:00 and 17:00 on weekdays; €35 online or €37 otherwise, including all weekend. A block card gives eleven hours for the price of ten.
What else can you do there?
Indoor tennis, badminton, indoor football, beach volleyball and golf simulators, plus a restaurant with a large terrace — it is a sports park first and a padel venue second.
