Beach Base is a beach sports venue in Hürth that added four floodlit padel courts next to its volleyball sand, and the result is the least venue-like padel in the Cologne area: a beach kiosk, a lounge, a covered event terrace, and no membership or subscription to think about. The operators say it plainly — no venue, no contract, just a slot.
The pricing is what makes it structurally different from everything else on this list. Courts are sold in thirty-minute blocks, €10 each on weekday daytimes and €15 in the evenings and at weekends, with a ninety-minute minimum and a fourteen-day booking horizon. Equipment is €5 and there is a player exchange for anyone short of a fourth. Court counts disagree between four and five across the directories; Playtomic and the venue's own copy both say four.
Getting there
Hürth, south-west of the city and roughly a quarter of an hour out by car. It is out of town, which is the trade for playing on a site built around sand rather than around a car park.
Running a session here
Beach Base has 4 courts, and a 90-minute booking is the slot to plan around. That fixes almost everything else about the evening.
- Bring 16 to 21 players. 16 is everyone on court every round; past that you are running a sit-out queue, which is fine but somebody has to track it.
- Expect about 6 rounds once you take out warm-up and changeovers — play each to 32 points so every court finishes together and the scores stay comparable.
- At 21 players, 5 people sit out each round. 4 courts tops out at 21 players before the sit-out queue is longer than the court time.
Formats that fit
- Americano a full rotation at 16 players is 15 rounds and the booking holds 6, so you play a slice of it. Fine for an evening, but the standings are a snapshot rather than a complete table.
- Mexicano re-pairs by the standings each round, so the games stay close. 6 rounds is enough for the table to mean something.
- King of the Court needs about 8 rounds to climb 4 courts, and the booking gives 6.
| Courts | Everyone plays | Up to |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 4 | 5 |
| 2 | 8 | 10 |
| 3 | 12 | 16 |
| 4 | 16 | 21 |
Four courts is sixteen players on court and a ceiling of twenty-one. A full Americano at sixteen wants fifteen rounds and ninety minutes gives thirteen at 16 points, so you come up two short — book two hours and it completes, or keep the ninety and run a Mexicano.
The half-hour pricing is genuinely useful for a group whose size you don't know yet. Two hours on four courts costs €120 in the daytime; adding the third and fourth court only when people confirm is a real option here, and at most venues it isn't.
For a mixed group, the beach volleyball next door is the same argument as a lounge but better: the people not on a padel court have a game rather than a chair.
