Two racket sports in one building: padel on four doubles and two singles courts, and pickleball on its own courts next door, booked through a different system. The hall is new, three thousand square metres, and — worth saying in a city where two of the indoor halls are explicitly unheated — both heated and ventilated.
The venue sells memberships as well as court hours, rents and sells rackets and balls, and runs a WhatsApp group for arranging matches, which is the useful part if you are four people short. An outdoor expansion has been announced; today everything is inside.
Getting there
Mariendorf in the south, on the Großbeerenstraße close to the A100 — this is a venue most people drive to, and the reason to know it is that the south of Berlin otherwise has Padel Lankwitz and little else indoors.
Running a session here
PBC Center Mariendorf has 4 courts, and a 90-minute booking is the slot to plan around. That fixes almost everything else about the evening.
- Bring 16 to 21 players. 16 is everyone on court every round; past that you are running a sit-out queue, which is fine but somebody has to track it.
- Expect about 6 rounds once you take out warm-up and changeovers — play each to 32 points so every court finishes together and the scores stay comparable.
- At 21 players, 5 people sit out each round. 4 courts tops out at 21 players before the sit-out queue is longer than the court time.
- The 2 singles courts are left out of those numbers — they seat two, so they take no round of a four-player rotation. Useful for a warm-up, or for whoever is sitting one out.
Formats that fit
- Americano a full rotation at 16 players is 15 rounds and the booking holds 6, so you play a slice of it. Fine for an evening, but the standings are a snapshot rather than a complete table.
- Mexicano re-pairs by the standings each round, so the games stay close. 6 rounds is enough for the table to mean something.
- King of the Court needs about 8 rounds to climb 4 courts, and the booking gives 6.
| Courts | Everyone plays | Up to |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 4 | 5 |
| 2 | 8 | 10 |
| 3 | 12 | 16 |
| 4 | 16 | 21 |
Four doubles courts is sixteen players on court, with a comfortable ceiling of twenty-one. A 90-minute booking gives thirteen rounds to 16 points and sixteen players need fifteen, so a full Americano rotation lands two rounds short of the slot. Book two hours and eighteen rounds finishes it; keep the 90 and run a Mexicano. The two singles courts are worth adding either way — they cost less and they give whoever is resting something to do.
