The entrance is the giveaway: you walk in through the Birgit & Bier beer garden, past the bikes you are not allowed to bring any further, and the courts are on the other side. This is a venue-culture site that acquired padel rather than a padel venue that acquired a bar, and it behaves accordingly — no changing rooms, no showers, toilets including an accessible one, and rackets for five euros if you turned up without.

Two doubles courts is a specific and useful size. Eight players is a complete Americano — every pair partners every other pair — and that is seven rounds, which an hour covers if you play each to 16 points rather than 21. Larger venues can't offer a finished rotation without either splitting the group or running a sit-out queue, so eight friends and two courts is the tidiest social session in the city.

Getting there

Twelve minutes on foot from Schlesisches Tor (U1), or the Lohmühlenstraße bus stops. Bikes go in the Schleusenufer 4 courtyard or in front of the beer garden, not inside it, and you can see them from the courts.

Running a session here

Birgit Padel has 2 courts, and a 60-minute booking is the slot to plan around. That fixes almost everything else about the evening.

  • Bring 8 to 10 players. 8 is everyone on court every round; past that you are running a sit-out queue, which is fine but somebody has to track it.
  • Expect about 6 rounds once you take out warm-up and changeovers — play each to 21 points so every court finishes together and the scores stay comparable.
  • At 10 players, 2 people sit out each round. 2 courts tops out at 10 players before the sit-out queue is longer than the court time.
  • The singles court is left out of those numbers — it seats two, so it takes no round of a four-player rotation. Useful for a warm-up, or for whoever is sitting one out.

Formats that fit

  • Americano a full rotation at 8 players is 7 rounds and the booking holds 6, so you play a slice of it. Fine for an evening, but the standings are a snapshot rather than a complete table.
  • Mexicano re-pairs by the standings each round, so the games stay close. 6 rounds is enough for the table to mean something.
  • King of the Court winners move up a court, losers move down. Works from 4 rounds on 2 courts.

If you book fewer courts

Heavy rain, puddles or thunder and the courts close with a refund, so build that into what you tell eight people. The venue asks you to check the forecast forty-eight hours out and use the cancellation window rather than gambling — good advice when you have already collected everyone's share.

Common questions

How do you get to the courts at Birgit Padel?
Through the Birgit & Bier beer garden at Schleusenufer 3. There is no separate sports entrance, and bicycles have to be left outside the garden.
Are there showers at Birgit Padel?
No. There are toilets, including an accessible one, but no changing rooms and no showers — plan the evening around that.
How many players fit on two doubles courts?
Eight on court at once. Eight players is seven rounds for a full Americano rotation, which fits an hour at 16 points a round and not at 21.
