The Erika-Heß-Eisstadion stops making ice in summer, and four padel courts appear on its outdoor area. That is the whole story of this venue and it is also its best feature: a district-run sports site in Wedding, four courts, free parking, and a booking that costs what an outdoor court should.
It is genuinely seasonal. The district says the courts run until the end of September, so a plan for October needs a different venue — the four indoor courts at PadelBros are the nearest equivalent in the same half of the city. While it is open, there is a coach running 90-minute classes at levels from beginner up, which is unusual for a summer-only site.
Getting there
Müllerstraße in Wedding, on the U6 between Seestraße and Leopoldplatz, and BeachMitte is close enough that a group can choose between them by whichever has a free slot. Parking on site is free.
Running a session here
Padel Mitte has 4 courts, and a 90-minute booking is the slot to plan around. That fixes almost everything else about the evening.
- Bring 16 to 21 players. 16 is everyone on court every round; past that you are running a sit-out queue, which is fine but somebody has to track it.
- Expect about 6 rounds once you take out warm-up and changeovers — play each to 32 points so every court finishes together and the scores stay comparable.
- At 21 players, 5 people sit out each round. 4 courts tops out at 21 players before the sit-out queue is longer than the court time.
Formats that fit
- Americano a full rotation at 16 players is 15 rounds and the booking holds 6, so you play a slice of it. Fine for an evening, but the standings are a snapshot rather than a complete table.
- Mexicano re-pairs by the standings each round, so the games stay close. 6 rounds is enough for the table to mean something.
- King of the Court needs about 8 rounds to climb 4 courts, and the booking gives 6.
| Courts | Everyone plays | Up to |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 4 | 5 |
| 2 | 8 | 10 |
| 3 | 12 | 16 |
| 4 | 16 | 21 |
Four courts and sixteen players, in a 90-minute booking that gives thirteen rounds to 16 points or ten to 21. A full Americano rotation at sixteen players is fifteen rounds, so it comes up two short — two hours at 16 points gives eighteen and finishes it, and anything less is a Mexicano. Either is fine; deciding after the fourth round is not.
