The founders are the story here, and the club tells it in the first person. Belén Salcedo moved from Spain in 2013, has been the United States' number one ranked player since 2016 and has played for Team USA in both regular and senior world championships. Mike May helped bring padel to the United States in 1993 and was president of the United States Padel Association for twenty-one years. They married in 2014 and opened this club to make the sport available to the general public. Their USPA listing puts the pitch bluntly: "Highest level of coaching in Houston and the lowest court rental rates." The club describes itself as the tenth padel club to open in the USA.

Two courts, outdoor and uncovered. The club's own site says neither — it never states a count or an indoor/outdoor split — so the count here comes from the booking systems and directories, which converge on two, and is corroborated by the club's own per-court rate card. Uncovered is a directory description rather than the club's word, but nothing the club publishes contradicts it, and nothing anywhere mentions shade, fans or misting. The 6am opening is the thing to read here: at a two-court uncovered site in this city, dawn is not an eccentric booking, it is the sensible one, and the 10pm close means lights.

The rate is published on the club's own fares page and is priced per court rather than per player: $45 for 60 minutes, $65 for 90. That is the cheapest padel per head in Houston when you fill the court — $11.25 each for an hour with four players — and it is the convention that rewards bringing a full group. Racquet rental is $5 a person plus tax; rentals are paid by Zelle, Venmo or cash. Playtomic lists a single membership at $85 a month covering eighteen hours of playing time for one player, member rates, a 7-day booking window and cancellation up to 24 hours, with a $195 wallet top-up.

The programming is unusually specific for a two-court club, and it is live and priced on the booking system rather than promised on a website. A Friday iPadel Mixer runs 120 minutes from 6:30pm at $22, including two cans of balls; a Friday Beginner Mixer at 8:30pm is also $22; Saturday low-intermediate open play starts at 7:30am for $22; a Monday men's league plays 90 minutes from 8:30pm at $20. There is a "Play! System" for players without a partner — "Enter if you want to play and cannot find someone" — plus a youth summer academy, private and group lessons, and USPA junior and senior tournaments across the under-12 to under-18 and 30-plus to 55-plus brackets.

One caveat about the website. It is stale: news items are dated 2023 and the events menu still promotes a social evening on 7 January. The fares page and the Playtomic listing are current, and bookings run through both the club's own portal — which is built on tpc-matchpoint club software and needs a profile before you can book — and Playtomic. Phone bookings are accepted.

Getting there

1112 Egypt St in Near Northside, just north of Downtown and a mile or so from West43 Padel, which shares the same postcode.

Free parking on site. The club is padel-only, so the two courts are the whole facility.

Running a session here

iPadel Houston has 2 courts, and a 60-minute booking is the slot to plan around. That fixes almost everything else about the evening.

  • Bring 8 to 10 players. 8 is everyone on court every round; past that you are running a sit-out queue, which is fine but somebody has to track it.
  • Expect about 6 rounds once you take out warm-up and changeovers — play each to 21 points so every court finishes together and the scores stay comparable.
  • At 10 players, 2 people sit out each round. 2 courts tops out at 10 players before the sit-out queue is longer than the court time.

Formats that fit

  • Americano a full rotation at 8 players is 7 rounds and the booking holds 6, so you play a slice of it. Fine for an evening, but the standings are a snapshot rather than a complete table.
  • Mexicano re-pairs by the standings each round, so the games stay close. 6 rounds is enough for the table to mean something.
  • King of the Court winners move up a court, losers move down. Works from 4 rounds on 2 courts.

If you book fewer courts

Two courts on the hour the price list quotes is an eight-player session, ten at a push with two resting each round. Fifty playable minutes is six rounds to 21 points or eight to 16.

Eight players is the natural size and the Americano is nearly there: a full rotation needs seven rounds, which the hour gives you at 16 points but not at 21. The club's $65 90-minute court is the fix — ten rounds at 21, so the whole rotation with room over, for $5 more each.

Per-court pricing means a full court is the whole game economically. Four players make the hour $11.25 each, six rotating make it $7.50, and two people paying $22.50 each for the same court is the most expensive padel in Houston. Bring the group.

Two uncovered courts and a 6am opening is not a coincidence. For a summer session, the first slot of the day or a lit evening are the two that work; a midday booking here is the one to avoid.
